The season is upon us. As hurricane season approaches (June 1st to November 30th), it's crucial to start preparing to protect your homes, families, businesses, and communities.
remember, i want you to prepare, but not panic. here are some practical tips to help you stay safe and get ready:
BUILD A PREP KIT LIKE A PRO š
Create an emergency kit or go bag FILLED WITH important documents, water, non-perishable food (at least 3 to 5 days), medications, flashlights, and batteries. Back up important documents and data digitally to ensure they are safe and accessible.
STAY CONNECTED WITH YOUR CREW š¬
Develop a support network. You are not alone. Reach out to family, friends, and neighbors to stay connected. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE A FAMILY GROUP CHAT, AND WE SHARE IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KEEP EVERYONE UP TO DATE, ALONG WITH THOSE FUNNY GIFS, MEMES, AND PICTURES WE LIKE TO SEND AS WE WEATHER THE STORM.
STORM PROOF YOUR HOME š ļø
To minimize damage, secure your home by reinforcing windows, doors, and roofs. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR LOCAL NEWS TO SEE ABOUT SANDBAG LOCATIONS AND OTHER RESOURCES.
Stay IN THE KNOWš±š
STAY informed by monitoring weather updates and evacuation notices from local authorities. Be sure to FOLLOW LOCAL NES STATIONS AND download weather apps FOR REAL-TIME INFORMATION.
KNOW YOUR EVACUATION ROUTES šš£ļøš¦
know your risk and know when and where to go. stay alert and informed by tuning into to your local news stations for updates. Plan ahead, pack your essentials, and be sure to leave early. mAKE IT AN ADVENTURE by packing your favorite snacks, curating a fun playlist, and playing travel games to help reduce stress and anxiety.
DOUBLE CHECK ā š
Check your insurance coverage to make sure you are adequately protected in case of DAMAGe.
PREPARE FOR POWER OUTAGES šŖ«
BE SURE TO PREPARE FOR EXTENSIVE POWER OUTAGES. MAKE SURE YOU CHARGE ALL OF YOUR DEVICES, BATTERY PACKS AND PORTABLE CHARGERS AHEAD OF TIME. please practice generator safety! generators can be deadly if not used safely and correctly. I have linked some resources on generator safety below.
don't forget to breathe & PRAYššš¾
give yourself permission to unwind and rest (it's not a curse wordš). try to do lighthearted, relaxing, and even fun things as you weather the storm. my family and i love to play games, color, dance, and have movie marathons, just to name a few ideas. one time, my husband setup an indoor campsite for us. We made s'mores (they were room temp, but who's complaining? when life throws those š make lemonade), watched the stars (twinkling lights), watched movies, and just had fun. pro tip āØ download your favorite movies and shows ahead of time in case you lose power.
Hurricanes are serious business, but with the right prep, you can turn a stressful time into something manageableāand maybe even a little bit of fun! I PRAY THAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE SAFE THROUGHOUT THIS SEASON.
