About Me

Dr. Trinity Johnson's research investigates how risk communication and public perception influence disaster preparedness in socially and geographically vulnerable communities across Southeast Louisiana. Her dissertation, titled "Weathering the Risks: How Risk Communication Shapes Preparedness for Natural Hazards and Extreme Weather," employs a convergent mixed-methods approach grounded in the Protective Action Decision Model to analyze how institutional messaging and social vulnerability impact household and community responses to extreme weather events.

Trinity has collaborated in research and engagement projects with NASA Lifelines, NASA DEVELOP, the LSU Institute for Energy Innovation, and the U.S. Department of Energy, integrating geospatial analysis, community outreach, and science communication to promote climate adaptation efforts. As a NASA Lifelines Fellow and NSF Bridge to the Doctorate Fellow, she possesses over ten years of interdisciplinary experience in applied research, science communication, policy engagement, and public service. Committed to diversifying the STEM pipeline and creating high-quality STEM experiences, Trinity develops culturally responsive and innovative STEM programs focused on empowering students from historically underrepresented communities. She is dedicated to translating scientific knowledge into equitable, evidence-based strategies that strengthen community resilience against climate-related disasters.

Beyond her professional environment, Trinity loves traveling and immersing herself in diverse cultures. She also enjoys crafting and creating, listening to music, spending time in nature, and cherishing moments with her family and friends.

About

"What motivates me to engage in high-quality, intentional science is knowing that my research could impact the lives of people I may never meet, who live in places I may never visit, but the science still impacts and reaches them."
